MANE 2010 - Solid Mechanics Fundamentals of the mechanics of deformable bodies: concepts of traction, stress, strain, the formulation of linear solid mechanics, including equilibrium and constitutive equations. Analytic and numerical solutions for axial, bending, torsion, and combined loading of beams and beam structures are presented in tandem. Numerical solutions are obtained with a finite element computation tool and are compared with analytic solutions. Other problems discussed include pressure vessels, deflection and stability of beam models, and thermal stress.
