PHIL 4440 - Knowledge and Rationality Humans claim to know many things but what does this knowledge come to and, indeed, can they know that they know anything at all? Most agree that knowledge is more than “mere belief” - it requires “justification.” This course looks at traditional and contemporary theories of justification and asks the question “Can commonsense views of knowledge and rationality survive in light of contemporary scientific understanding of the nature of knowers?”
Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisite: one course in philosophy.
When Offered: Spring term odd-numbered years.
