ARTS 2550 - History through Sound: Modern Music and Beyond This course is about 20th century music and sound art, stressing the styles and genres that descend from the traditions of European-American art music. The course covers the advent of and reactions to Modernism in music and the growth of experimentalism to 1950; then post-World War II practices and theories including indeterminacy, improvisation, electronic music, and recent computer based practices.
