Life Sciences and Entrepreneurship Graduate Certificate (Troy Campus)

The Life Sciences Entrepreneurship certificate will allow you to understand the complex regulatory framework, define intellectual property strategy, and balance the ethical boundaries associated with life sciences innovation and entrepreneurship through this experiential program.

Certificate Information


The certificate requires four courses, for a total of 12 credit hours.

  • The program results in a graduate-level certificate in Life Sciences Entrepreneurship.
     
  • The certificate’s blended online delivery reflects today’s dynamic workplace.
     
  • Courses are taken for credit, and successful completion requires a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
     
  • Faculty and clinicians guide the completion of project work as it relates to student’s career objectives.
     
  • The completion of the practicum course provides real-life business experience.
     
  • Each course builds on previous instruction, and some must be taken in sequence.
     
  • Students may apply this certificate to other degree programs, according to each program’s requirements.

Program Characteristics:


The program builds on the premise that a successful graduate level business program in Life Sciences Entrepreneurship must instill in the student the following characteristics:

  • Close and intense exposure to the latest developments and trajectories of evolution in the underlying sciences such as life science, biomedical engineering, and bioinformatics.
     
  • Knowledge of entrepreneurship and the challenges it entails in terms of raising resources and capital, and commercializing and bringing products successfully to market through start-ups. 
     
  • Life science industry specific challenges in terms of handling regulation, protecting intellectual property, facilitating technology transfer from universities, engaging in inter firm transactions such as alliances and licensing, and ethical considerations. 
     
  • A practical exposure to challenges that companies of varying sizes and backgrounds face, and the solutions they have developed when commercializing life science innovation.
