Astrobiology Minor

The Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Physics, Applied Physics and Astronomy, participate in a multidisciplinary minor in Astrobiology. The minor requires at least 16 credits.  To complete the minor, students must complete the following:

  • ISCI 1510  Introduction to Astrobiology (3 credits)

  • ISCI 4510  Readings in Astrobiology and the Origins of Life (1 credit); taken at least 2 semesters

  • A 3-credit research project on a topic related to Astrobiology under the supervision of a RARE faculty member or other faculty member with permission of the RARE Director

  • ISCI 4610  Capstone in Astrobiology (1 credit)

  • At least two additional courses from the list below to bring the total credits to at least 16.  These additional courses must be outside the major field of study*

Additional Information


*If the student has a dual major, the two selected courses must be outside one of the major fields of study.
