BMED 4650 - Introduction to Cell and Tissue Engineering This course teaches the use of engineering principles to describe cellular processes of biological, chemical, and physical nature. A quantitative approach will be used to explain the behavior of cells under various physical stimuli through the application of the laws of physics, mathematics, and physical biochemistry. The transduction of these physical stimuli into modified behavior and their impact on organ level performance/function and tissue engineering will be discussed in the case of mammalian cells.
Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisites: A basic course in mechanics (ENGR 2530 or BMED 4540, and a basic course in transport phenomena or fluid dynamics (ENGR 2250 or equivalent), or permission of instructor.
When Offered: Fall semester annually.
Credit Hours: 3
