ECSE 4540 - Introduction to Voice and Image Processing


An introduction to the two fields of voice and image processing, covering analytical and implementation aspects. Optical, electronic analog and digital processing techniques are covered in the imagery field, including sampling and quantization, 2-D transforms, image transmission and compression, image enhancement, sensors, and diversified applications. The voice processing portion involves speech synthesis, analysis, identification, and transmission. Physiological properties of speech, word, and speaker identification systems, digital speech transmission and compression, Vocoders, and applications. The course usually includes one field trip.

Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisite: ECSE 4510.

When Offered: Spring term annually.
