ARCH 6400 - Philosophies of Space in a Digital Culture

The focus of the course will be on establishing an intellectual means to comprehend the cultural context of electronic media. The course will examine relevant philosophies, psychologies, and cultural ephemera to situate the ’information revolution’ into a meaningful context. The motivations of the class are very political; architecture (via an expanded definition) is seen as a means of comprehending the powers of space and nonspace. Electronic media and its related technologies will be examined through the filter of a theory of architecture—a theory that will be designed throughout the course.

When Offered: Fall terms annually. Limited enrollment.

Credit Hours: 4
