MANE 6860 - Introduction to Nonlinear Finite Elements Review of linear finite element concepts. Nonlinear continuum mechanics of solids: finite strain and stress measures, total and updated Lagrangian approaches, variational methods - virtual work principle. Non-linear finite element procedures: Incremental solution of nonlinear equations, Newton-Rephson method. Finite elements for elasto-plasticity. Finite elements for hyper-elasticity. Contact of solids using finite elements. Finite elements in dynamics.
Prerequisites/Corequisites: An undergraduate course in finite elements is necessary.
When Offered: Spring term every one to two years.
Co-Listed: MANE 4860 . Students cannot obtain credit for both this course and the co-listed course.
