MTLE 4130 - Functional Ceramics This course covers topics of structures and properties of functional ceramic materials: atomic structure; symmetry; defects; electrical, optical, magnetic, electrochemical and dielectric properties; phase and defect equilibria; charge transport; and structural and electronic phase transitions. Case studies on oxide ceramics include ferroelectricity, piezoelectricity, pyroelectricity, electro-optics, shape memory ceramics, and solid electrochemistry.
Prerequisites/Corequisites: MTLE 4100 or approval by the instructor
When Offered: spring term, odd-numbered years
Co-Listed: MTLE 6130 ; Students can only earn credit for one of these courses.
