Economics

A major in Economics requires 34 credit hours in the discipline and must include the following: ECON 1200 Introductory Economics, ECON 2010 Intermediate Microeconomic Theory, ECON 2020 Intermediate Macroeconomics Theory, ECON 4570  Econometrics, and ECON 4900 Seminar in Economics (minimum two units). Courses in Mathematics and Statistics are also required as prerequistes.

Although specific courses will vary, the template below illustrates a typical bachelor of science curriculum within the Department of Economics. This curriculum requires a minimum of 124 credit hours.

Concentrations


Work in the major field can easily be combined with meaningful concentrations of study in other fields of interest. Some possibilities include:

  • Emphasizing electives in, for example, policy studies related to science and technology, financial economics, or data analytics.
  • Pursuing a minor concentration of 15 to 18 credit hours in a related professional field, such as environmental or transportation engineering, management, or computer science.
