Chairman: CAPT J.A. Joseph, USN

The Department of Naval Science offers an elective program to qualify male and female students for a reserve commission in the United States Navy or Marine Corps. There are two categories of students: (1) scholarship and (2) college program.

Scholarship students receive up to four years of full scholarship benefits and a monthly stipend.  (Two and three year scholarships are also awarded via a competitive application process.  Awardees are considered as scholarship students.)

College program students participate in all on-campus NROTC activities during the first two years of instruction.  Prior to the Junior year, college program Midshipmen are required to earn approval for advanced standing.  Once approved, advanced standing Midshipmen receive a monthly stipend, participate in additional fleet-based training, and earn a commission.

College program students are eligible and competitive for two and three year scholarships.
